My husband and I stayed at the Asbury Ocean Club Hotel on Saturday night, 2/15. We were so impressed by the warm and welcoming staff, and the very beautiful appointments of our room and the hotel itself. When we reviewed the charges by the hotel provided to us by American Express, we were puzzled at a $40 charge. I called the hotel today and spoke to a very professional employee named Lauren. She went out of her way to dig into the matter and kindly advised me that the $40 was for the shower gel we enjoyed in our room and decided to take with us. After all, it is customary that personal products offered in the bath and shower of hotel rooms are complimentary. We were mistaken. I find it thoroughly disgusting that guest after guest opens and uses that same dispenser of shower gel. Beyond being disgusted, we are disappointed. We thought we had found a lovely and civilized alternative to the frat-house atmosphere of The Asbury. We love to visit Asbury Park throughout the year and often stay overnight.
