Nice cozy place to stop in and have a drink at!

This is a private club, you have to be a member in order to be in here, apparently it's a North Carolina thing. Didn't pay to be a member since we were leaving town. Food menu looks good, great selection of scotch and bourbon.

Picture a yacht club. Boats. Gently rocking on the water. Gulls swooping down. Salt tinging the air. Now erase all of that because that's nothing like the Asheville Yacht Club. In reality, the AYC is a tiki bar turned heavy metal pre-game dive joint. Located in downtown Asheville and no where near water. You have to be a member to enter, which costs all of $1. Members get 1 free guest, so come in pairs and make it cheaper. Both must sign the guest book at the entrance to formally get in. That part was pretty cool. Once inside, it's dark, it's loud, and you aren't really sure what the decor is supposed to be. Skulls, tiki figures, coconut bras all dot the walls and hang from the ceiling. There are booths against the left side of the bar, a few high top standing tables, and bar stools around the bar. My boyfriend and I opted to sit at the bar to better view what was going on. There are booze deals every day. We went on a Saturday and there was cheap beer and discounted drinks. The BF got a boilermaker and wishes he didn't. Crap beer and even worse bourbon made for a rough drink. He slowly nursed it in the time it took me to drink 3 different drinks. Having done my research, I knew about the Painkiller drink.
