I knew Mr. Davis personally; my mother worked at his bakery, on Hull Street; and even at the one before that one, the "Snow White" Bakery, which I think was also on Hull Street, but further into the city. I think my daddy helped to build Davis Bakery, and also worked on Mr. Davis' resort home. I sure do miss their "French Apple Pies"! They used to ship them out to the stores in the country. Wish they would make those, again.

I purchased a Davis coconut pie at Kroger in Richmond, Va yesterday. The pie was terrible. Bottom crust was too thick. Fillng tasted like pure sugar. Very little to no coconut taste. Really bad.
