We're still on our mission to find the best margherita pie in NJ. This week we were in Pompton Lakes, NJ and yes, Donna's Pizza by Chef Anton Testino caught our eye. New-er place? Okay, let's do it. We ordered a few different pies besides the margherita. Naturally, when we see a pizza place advertise "the best Sicilian..." game on. But first, the Margherita pie. What we like to do is pick up our order, open the box to get the freshest taste possible even if its in our car. We opened and the pie looked fantastic. A "normal size" crust, not think, not thick... the usual. The fresh mozz was spaced out nicely but a little burnt. The sauce was fresh with baked on basil leaves and a nice olive oil shine. We were excited BUT upon the first bite... it was missing something! The crust had a very nice crispiness but was lacking freshness. I hate to say it but almost like when you reheat your pizza in a regular oven. The sauce as well.. very fresh but we did not get that basil and/or sweet tomato sauce taste. We wanted to like this, we really did but we did not get any flavor from it. The mozz was fine.The other pies were okay as well. We did the Sicilian and Nonna's pan pizza. Honestly, the Sicilian was the best pie of the three, a nice salty sauce, not too thick crust (fresh) and regular mozz melted on top. Nothing fancy but worth a try. Nonna's was in 3rd place. A very greasy pie, advertised with aged mozz with basil leaves, pan pie with some thickness in the crust. This was not as fresh as the Sicilian; the mozz and sauce, again, was o...
