It's been a rough road for East Wall (東禾酒家) over the last decade and combined with the pandemic has made their decline all the more noticeable with less fanfare, rising costs, and emptier dining rooms. While the neighborhood / area (#1) has become increasingly more saturated, their reign as one of the more established Cantonese restaurants never waned, and suddenly they're as underrated as ever. Unlike so many of the mega sized Cantonese banquet spots, East Wall is moderately sized by comparison. With a handful of group friendly tables, they've done well to maximize the space and have done a hell of a job with the decor. Very nice and authentic place. if you'd like to try real Chinese cuisine - no brainer! Try Beijing Duck - they know how to do it here and fried rice is very tasty, like it should.

Someone recommended East Wall Restaurant to me. So, we decided to give it a try. First, the place was empty, and the order was prepared in a decent amount of time (about 20 minutes). So, the service was prompt. Since we were trying it out for the first time, we ordered staples because if the staple dishes aren't good, then I don't expect much from the specialty dishes. We ordered the house fried rice, orange chicken, pepper steak, eggplant with garlic sauce w/beef, and vegetable and regular egg rolls. The rice had a good flavor, but the rice was very mushy like it was over boiled with too much water. The orange chicken wasn't bad, but didn't wow us. It was just OK. Also, watch out for bones in the meat. I understand that things happen, but there was a very sharp bone in one of the chicken chunks. If I had bitten down at a different angle, it would have punctured underneath my tongue. The pepper steak was bland and had NO FLAVOR, and the meat was slightly chewy. The eggplant dish had a few scraps of beef and was just OK. The vegetable egg roll was very greasy and had an old grease taste. The regular egg roll was just OK and kind of bland. After tip, the total bill was $80. For what we received (the orange chicken was skimpy for the cost and based on flavor, none of the dishes were worth the prices charged), the...
