Golden Fish & Chicken in Pelham

As an experienced foodie, I tend to think a lot about the experiences I like most. That said, I have the maturity to look back on where I tend to go most often for a more objective idea of what I know is the best. This place is not only accommodating, but just a pleasure to dine at - inside, the staff is friendly, really giving you the idea that the folks aren't nice and smiling just because their boss is looking over their shoulder.First time in. Asked for a ton of wings. Asked if we could get em baked instead of fried. Bam. Done. Delicious.Every time I go, I have to get the fried okra. Especially fresh out, I don't know what it is they put in them but oooh-wee, that crispy fried shell! And the seasoning on them is amazing!I did try the hot chicken wings last time I went. Unfortunately, it seemed the sauce was a bit light. That said, it was so crispy it was obvious that they were sauced gingerly so as not the break up that crispy skin layer and preserve their tenderness! I loved it despite the absence of sauce.The iced tea is hit or miss. Sometimes tastes a bit off. Never really bad, but sometimes makes me wish I got water instead. Sometimes not. It's nothing really special anyway, so get a coke. You're not worried about calories at this joint.Have yet to try the seafood, but if you're like me, just try the wings and breaded okra with your favorite drink. Can't go wrong here with that combo.

I have nothing but good things to say about Golden Fish & Chicken. We tried them for the first time tonight and we will be back. We ordered cheese sticks, catfish and shrimp plates, and a couple of tropical berry smoothies. First, hats off to the lady at the drive thru that recommended the berry smoothies. She was extremely nice. The food was delicious. Everything was fried perfectly to order and was hot even after a 45 minute ride home. The catfish and shrimp plates came with fries, slaw, and toast. The portion sizes were large and everything was not only there but they packaged the bread and slaw separately so the bread was not squished nor the slaw hot. Their menu consists of fried fish, shrimp, oysters, and chicken. They have chicken fingers, wings, livers, gizzards, and traditional fried chicken. A couple of salads, Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Philly, and chicken sandwiches, grilled and fried, are also included as well as some yummy sides like fried okra. My only complaint is they were out of oysters but I'm told there is a shortage so what can you do? My solution is to keep returning until they have some. Do go check them out if you haven't already. You won't be sorry.
