SÚPER BLAND! Came here to try the gorditas and omg disappointment is an understatement, more like embarrassment for this place, the food is ridiculously tasteless, so bland! .. the gorditas had berly any filling, and did I mention so bland! .. you’re better off going to a near by food truck!

Gorditas Aguascalientes is one of the 10 places that I will take out of town guests to dine, in order to give them a taste of the breadth and variety of dining experiences in Houston. The original location is on Bissonnet. But I live closer to this Irvington location. As you will see from the photographs, the atmosphere is festive. There is a row of aguas frescas to select from. My preference is "melon" (cantaloupe). There is a mountain of freshly made masa, from which the various antojitos can be made. Antojito means "before the little eyes" and translates roughly as snacks, amuse bouche, little tasty things....you get the idea. Now in Mexico, a lot of these would be your street food. A little snack from a street vendor. Sopes, gorditas, tacos, etc. Lots of choices of fillings. And the regular menu lists entrees, combination plates, and more. You will see a lot of people enjoying a beef soup with meat and vegetables (caldo de res). This is a place that ambulatory musicians frequent, hoping to earn a little money by playing a requested song. It is a classic "Mexico in Houston" destination. And the food is very good.
