I've had take out and eaten here for dinner before. I'm back for lunch! The lunch is quite reasonably priced. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken without peanuts or vegetables, fried rice, egg roll, and egg drop soup - after tax, it came to $9.45 TOTAL! Wow! The egg drop soup has no corn - THANK YOU! Probably one of the few places in town that DOESN'T put corn in their egg drop soup. So, Thank You, for that.  The soup is always hot, which is great. I also appreciate that the soup is always hot. The fried rice has a smoky flavor to it, and the lunch plate comes with an egg roll. They have sweet & sour sauce and hot mustard on the table. My Kung Pao Chicken came with a lot of chicken and a lot of sauce - perfect for mixing with the rice.  My favorite meal is probably the lunch, since the portion is smaller and the price is more inexpensive. The food was hot & fresh, the waitress was attentive and I always had a full glass of iced tea. It looks as though I've found my NEW favorite Chinese food restaurant!

We lived much of our life in New York and New Jersey. We actually got engaged in Chinatown in 1969 New York City at Cafe BO BO. Hong Fat was a regular hangout.Cantonese cuisine was the baseline for most of what we were familiar with and learned to love. After living in Houston for six years we basically avoided Chinese restaurants here because we were always chronically disappointed.Last night we walked into happy lamp at 4 pm on Sunday to an empty store with a little bit of takeout and that’s it. It was an off hour and that’s usually a bad time to eat anywhere. Not here at happy lamp. The staff was friendly and attentive the menu very familiar and our order was without doubt the best we’ve had in the city. Egg drop soup is delicious the noodles that accompanied them are crispy and fresh. Eggrolls are forgettable but that doesn’t matter they usually are. But the happy family mixed dish of 4 meats and vegetables Was delicious and a walk down memory lane. My wife ordered a chicken chow mein because it’s an old-school dish and nobody ever serves it, IT was the bomb .giant beautiful fresh slices of chicken adorning beautifully cooked vegetables and a white sauce with fresh bean sprouts Yum!The special fried rice there’s a mixture of beef chicken and shrimp, was very well Prepared. We took home leftovers that were just as delicious the next day.I am very picky& critical about restaurants but fresh ingredients well prepared served with kindness and a smile can’t be beat! Thank you for surprisi...
