Hunan Kitchen in Houston

This place is waaaaay over priced for what you get. Ordered food for pick-up. $50 for 2 orders of fried rice, Mongolian beef and one order of egg rolls (which says 4 pieces but added all together equals one egg roll maaaaybe). Would be different if the portions were bigger… but Uber Eats prices and I had to pick up? Mongolian Beef was good, but not that good.

I'd been wanting to place an order here, try it out, for some time.  With the "spottiness" of some of the reviews, though, I held off.   I'm glad I FINALLY tried Hunan Kitchen. The online order was quick and easy.  The food was prepared and ready to go when I walked in to pick up.  There can be some parking issues, but I was lucky and snagged the only empty spot. We ordered the fried pork dumplings and beef fried rice. The fried dumplings were perfect - hot, crispy and not a single sign of excess grease.  The filling was dense but flavorful.  I disliked the high vinegar content of their dipping sauce but usually end up making my own anyway.  -1 star The beef fried rice?  Y'ALL.  OMG.  This is the best beef fried rice I've had in Katy (and my Love will tell you that I have tried them all).  The rice itself was well cooked, no clumps, well seasoned.  But that big, juicy, flavorful beef (and so MUCH of it) was delicious.  Do I wish there were vegetables instead of just scallions?  Sure - but the beef was so good I didn't miss it at all. Even my Love (who is 'meh' about fried rice) has 2nd and then 3rd helpings!  Great taste, great value. We will be back.  I can't wait to try some of the other items on their menu!

I wish I had taken a pic of the Xiao Long Bao too, because they were great. All the food was delicious, and the service very good. The restaurant is clean and inviting as well.The menu has loads of photos for many of the items, which is very helpful. It's also a large menu with a much greater variety of dishes than many Chinese restaurants in the area. Many traditional items too! Also they have lamb dishes! Yum.I highly recommend this restaurant, and if you eat in rather than take out, you can try delicious things that don't travel well like the steamed buns and aforementioned soupy dumplings!
