A friend of mine and I went to a movie on a colder Iowa night, and decided last minute to try to find a place to have a beer afterwards. Driving down Ankeny Blvd there wasn't much happening anywhere until we spotted the rows of cars outside Jakes. We decided to stop in. If you like a smaller, narrow, deep, busy pub atmosphere, then you will love Jakes and the energetic and fun vibe inside. I can see why there were cars outside when everywhere else in town had empty lots!
