I went to kirby ice house with my family at 4PM on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate my friend successfully defending her thesis. I went to their website to check out the space and they loudly and proudly proclaim to be great for events, to bring friends and family, and to even bring furry friends because they are incredibly dog friendly. Nowhere on their website prepared me to be turned away at the door because of our kids. I get it, some places aren't a great fit for kids. But the man at the door who turned us away said it was because of local laws and that children are only allowed at other bars all over houston because "those serve food, and we don't. We contract our food out to food trucks and so our hands are tied, sorry." I have found no such laws in my now extensive search of Houston policies and laws. And honestly? At 4PM? The space would be INCREDIBLY appropriate for families. The outdoor space is expansive, there are food trucks, there's plenty of space. But the man at the door LYING to my face is the egregious offense. They should advertise the policy clearly and in bold on their website. Take ownership of the policy when turning people away, rather than blaming nonexistent laws.
