'Bienvenue' La Tartine de Houston to the west side, and welcome on becoming my favorite French bakery cafe here in Houston as well. La Tartine took over the place that used to be Sweet Mesquite, but they sure have transformed the former restaurant into something else that makes you feel like you're in a French cafe. The first thing I've notice when I walked in is the Christmas decors. Yes, I know for some of you by the time you read this review, it may not be December anymore but La Tartine really did a fantastic job on the whole Christmas decorations in the cafe.The next thing you will see right away is the all the pastry desserts such as cakes, tarts, etc. in the refrigerated case that's right at the register. Given it was our first time at the place, we took a menu and took a seat while studying it. One of the good thing about this place is the price for everything. This isn't another overpriced French cafe in Houston, the price is fair and certainly for the quality of the food they provide here. We went back to the register and placed our order, I had a latte, omelette au fromage (cheese omelette) and my friend had croque madame, which is an open face croissant with cheese, egg, and ham.Given that we weren't sure if we were gonna get desserts in the end, the owner let us know that we could keep the tab open and decide later. There weren't many customers in the morning but people did slowly coming in. The service was prompt and the food was simply delicious. Despite the cheese omelette sounded plain, it was well made with generous amount of cheese in and on the omelette.
