Perfect place to try out one of the best BBQ in none other than in one of the best places for BBQ that this planet has to offer, North Carolina. This restaurant was in an ideal location, no less than 10 minutes away from downtown Asheville and has a spectacular, rustic interior which gives off a down-to-earth feel, like if you were in grandpa's kitchen after a long day. The pricing is reasonable, and the food is awesome with a bar that has local drinks and different local sauces which you can all try for free. Parking can get a bit full at times, so try to come when it's not as busy. Everyone was super nice.

Luella's was really good. This was the second of two BBQ places we tried in Asheville. Overall I liked Luella's better; the brisket was excellent. Well, everything was excellent. There was ribs and the brisket; mac and cheese, collards, coleslaw. Their sauces were good but that was the one thing I liked a bit better at the other place we tried. They sell drinks in cans or bottles, so no fountain. I tried the lemonade and it was quite yummy. It's a counter service place so you'll place your order right when you walk in the door. As of July 2021 they had about as much outdoor seating as indoor, which may be a standard thing ev...

While on vacation in North Carolina, I felt obligated to try some famous NC BBQ while visiting Asheville. Ultimately, we decided on Luella's Bar-B-Que, and I couldn't have been happier with my decision. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I could tell this was going to be a stellar experience. The atmosphere was exactly what I've grown to expect from a BBQ spot, and the place was almost full on a Wednesday night which was a promising sign. I ordered the chopped pork BBQ plate which came with a generous portion of pork as well as 3 hushpuppies and 2 sides. For my sides, I selected 2 southern staples; mac and cheese and collard greens. The food came out very quickly, and I was instantly impressed and slightly intimidated by the large portion of pork. Not that I'm complaining, because it was sensational. The meat was seasoned with a touch of vinegar sauce which tied everything together. Much to my surprise, the side dishes were not overlooked. The mac and cheese dish was simple yet tasty, and the collard greens were some of the best that I've ever had. This was, however, my first time having hushpuppies, so I can't form too strong of an opinion on them. All I can say is that they were delicious, especially when dipped in one of the several BBQ sauces that the restaurant provides. If you're planning on visiting Luella's, make sure you ask for some of their additional BBQ sauces which our waitress happily brought us. The jalapeno and tomato-infused horseradish were especially tasty. For dessert, I ordered the banana pudding ice cream, and I could tell that it was handmade. The flavor was different than that of traditional banana ice cream, and the texture was unbelievable. Ther...
