We’ve been going to Matsu and Umi for the last two years and have always been impressed by their rolls. It’s some of the best sushi in the Seattle area. Unfortunately, our last stop at Matsu wasn’t great. The understaffing is not the fault of those who were working and we appreciated the effort of the servers there. However, it does stink to not be able to get even the basics for the table. Completely not blaming the servers but we just wish that places would take care of their staff so the business doesn’t suffer. On top of this, the food was just plain awful and that is something I don’t understand. One of our rolls had an extremely bitter and foul after taste that we couldn’t place but we both noticed. The other rolls were marred by avocado that was very over ripened and it tasted like it had gone bad days before. The rolls were inedible without taking them apart. To be fair, once the bad parts were removed the rest was great. I guess for the cost and past experiences, our expectations were much higher. Maybe avoid this place for now if you want a high quality experience and come back another time.
