I don't usually write reviews for sandwich places, but I've been going to Nixon's so long that I feel I should make an exception. Steamed sandwiches are a topic of some controversy in my family... I absolutely love them and look for them anywhere i go - but they seem to be concentrated in the Knoxville area for some reason. (I have discovered recently that Firehouse Subs steams their sandwiches, so I can always get my fix there - but it isn't quite the same as a Nixon's steamed sandwich). Unfortunately, most of the family (including my wife) just sees them as soggy and not at all appealing. Oh well - they don't know what they're missing! I always order the same thing - turkey and swiss on pumpernickel with mustard and mayo and pickles and peppers on the side. Steamed, of course! It is just soft, warm, flavorful sandwich heaven! I have to have one every time I'm in Knoxville. Give it a try if you haven't had a steamed sub before!

Food is ok.  They steam the bread, which turns the bread into soggy mush.  When I eat there, I ask them not to steam the bread, then the sandwiches are decent.

First time trying their food and it was very good. I like how it is local owners and not part of a chain. I definitely will have to try them again. 8" sandwich with chips and drink ended up just under $10.
