Paulie's in Houston

Wow, this place is so good! My friend and I only got pasta's, but both were delicious, and followed the "Everything's bigger in Texas' mantra for sure. As someone who I think eats more than the average human, the portions were big even for me.  I got the large portion of the Canestri Alla Funghi and there was so much food that I saved half of it and saved it for a full lunch portion the next day. The flavors were also immaculate. The mushroom flavor was strong, but not overpowering and the sauce was super creamy that blended well with the garlic taste as well. I was excited to try this place. I've heard great things about the food. Turns out that the alfredo was super bland. Not sure if they were having an off day, but how can you make a bland alfredo sauce? I gobbled my food down so that I could get it over with. Olive Garden has better alfredo. Portions are great though. I never leave bad reviews, but this was definitely the exception.

Paulie's is always a solid choice when you're craving Italian food in Houston. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, even when they are busy. We've been here several times, but on this visit we got the Carbonara special (Saturday special) and an order of meatball sliders. Evening was delicious. The carbonara was nice and simple, which is great, as it's not meant to be a complex dish, and the meatball sliders were very tasty. Also, don't sleep on the cookies and desserts. Be sure to leave a little room!
