Compared to the 90's (and earlier, but I'm a 90's kid), the fandom scene has blown up a lot in Orange County! It's not uncommon to see someone with a shirt that's a part of or inspired by some type of fandom. Heck, enthusiastic college students have even started hosting conventions! Other areas are not as fortunate and the community's not as present. While in Canada, I visited a geeky restaurant called Storm Crow Tavern where you could play tabletop games, eat fandom themed food, and so on. It was great! Still I wondered why Orange County, a place with such a big fandom community, didn't really have MANY spaces that were similar. Maybe leasing a space was too darn expensive for how much one might expect to make? Personally, though I (not very seriously) considered starting one, I wouldn't have even tried to start a fandom-inspired business in Orange County even as recent as five years ago. I feel that's how much the community has grown over the years! Here we are in 2019, with fandom communities becoming bigger than ever, and a wild Requiem: Coffee, Tea, and Fantasy appeared! Such perfect timing. I do want to emphasize that there ARE other spaces that are fandom inspired in Orange County. For example, Lag Bar is right down the street (maybe 30 steps away) from Requiem. It's just that Lag Bar is a bar and Requiem is a cafe. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, the drinks and such at Requiem make me feel more like I belong there. I'm just really happy that different fandom inspired spaces aimed at different people with different lifestyles are popping up! Even if I'm not their targe...
