Fantastic local joint. The service was friendly. The portions were huge. The food was delicious. Great value.. Please give this place a try to experience the real Hawaii.

It's good to come back to Hawaii...in addition to the great weather is the variety of cuisine available to include saimin from Shiro's Saimin Haven. A historic institution, creating and serving a local favorite, saimin, a simple Chinesey style noodle with an awesome Hawaiian "local" flair all at an affordable price.  The original proprietor was a poet (and he knew it) and his prose are found throughout the restaurant and menu. Shiro has more 60+ (64 varieties) I think of saimin that caters to any desire...if you do not find one to you liking, you can create your own!  In addition to the saimin, Shiro's provides local, comfort food - beef stew, lau lau, lomi lomi salmon, chicken/pork katsu, and many more...however, you will not go wrong in trying any one of the saimin. I ordered the pork belly saimin - fully loaded with wun ton, vegetables, garnishes, and the pork belly on the side...mixed some yellow mustard (NOT the type you put on your hot dogs, but a hot, spicy Chinese(?) style) mixed with shoyu (soy sauce) and oh boy, it "broke the mouth" (Local for truly awesome).  I do not believe that t...
