South Side Cafe in Annandale

Nice spot for a midnight snack. Chicken tenders are great!

The food  here is really delicious, which is especially surprising considering that it is inside a hospital! For example, tonight I just had a Cheesesteake Sandwich that was a good or better than any at a restaurant.

South Side Cafe is what you would call a mess! During the time I visited here, I had a family member who was staying at this hospital and this was the closest cafeteria to the room. I mostly visited during the evening, but a couple times I came during the afternoon and morning. I was expecting an extremely clean place with healthy employees. That was not what I found! Walking in, it smelt peculiar and the floor was super sticky. The floor could easily be compared to a neglected movie theater floor. The only difference was that you could see the filth on these floors. The stations were a mess with the food they were serving all around the floor and the counters. The food was never good. The family member (who was given IV and was only allowed (water) sips & (ice) chips for about a week) complained that the food tasted repulsive. The products were set at "your trapped here" prices (aka inflated prices). The employees were not really nice or helpful. In addition to their "I'm here only for my paycheck" attitude, some were very ill and coughing/sneezing over the food or improperly covering their sneezes/coughs! I never expected this in a Hospital. I'm very disappointed! I would not recommend coming here unless your patient is well and your just here for some drink or bag of chips.
