A family-run institution that has sat in the same spot for over 30 years, this taqueria is beloved in the community and by many of my Mexican-American friends. I've passed that striking yellow, red, and green façade dozens of times on my way back from Hobby airport, and each time I make a mental note to stop by one day for some authentic Mexican food. Finally got a chance a couple weeks ago. Granted it was a busy lunch hour on a Friday so maybe the staff were tied up, but it didn't feel very welcoming as we ordered at the counter or waited for 15-20 mins for four tacos and some drinks. The dozens of T-shirts for sale on the wall behind the register also gave the place an almost commercial feel. We checked out the attached bakery to pass time and it was likely a wonderland of delicious, home-made treats. For sure coming back for some authentic pastries in the near future. But the food from...
