This restaurant really brought in the heat. I honestly thought I could handle any level of spice until I bumped into Thai Orchid on a random Sunday night rendezvous. To be honest, the best food items on the menu are of Laotian and Cambodian influence. The Thai food is not bad but the said cultural influence really takes the cake for the heat. The Som Tum [papaya salad] here is the total winner; super crisp, sour and spicy. I honestly could not handle the heat of this dish. But after a short while I was able to catch my breath and consume most of it. The flavors are super complex and wakes you up silly. Pairing this item with their sweetened cold Thai coffee was the saving grace in regards to catching my breath. I love soup, and their Tom Yum (Thai hot & sour soup) had plenty of depth and zest to it. The soup was brimming with fresh tomatoes, shrimp and mushrooms & topped with cilantro. You can ask for this soup to be vegetarian as well. I really enjoyed their Laad Nah. It is one of my favorite takes on Thai style noodles; brimming with dark gravy, broccoli & onions. Asked for chicken with this dish and it accompanied the gravy and veggies quite well.
