This place is a real treat. I am lover of all-things Brazilian Food so I was ready to dig into all their options. However, I haven't been to too many African/African-fusion spots so this made my first (of many so far) trips to The Damel worth it. I first encountered The Damel via their food truck at an Oakland Roots Soccer Club match ( Go, Roots!) While they offered a limited menu, I tried a few items and knew I had to get to the restaurant fast. I'll break this down based on my first visit to the restaurant: 1. COVID Precautions. I was happy to see the distanced seating, clear flow of traffic through the restaurant to keep incoming/outgoing traffic away from one another and the sanitizer and screens up around the food/register. Masks are one while entering and ordering but are removed when seated and eating. I haven't been there in a few months so the rules may have changed since then. 2. Staff. This group is a friendly bunch of people. The young lady who helped me at the food truck was also working the register a few times at the restaurant. They seem like a jovial bunch- laughing with the cooks, shouting orders back and assisting one another to get meals to the customers in a timely manner.
