Umi in Richmond

It pains me to write this review on one of our "usual" favorite places, it does. I feel compelled to write because of our most recent visit 8-7-2021. Again, this was our experience and this has more to do with aesthetics than anything else because the food is still very good. However, the ambiance is just as important is it not? So, with that in mind, let me just say if you plan on going here anytime soon, be prepared to be greeted by a STOP before you go in station right when you go in the door. They are requiring masks for everyone. You have to ring a bell as soon as you walk in and you have to wait for someone to come and greet you.  The staff then confirms you actually have a reservation, because its required now. Be prepared for the AC not to work so well, it was not working when we were there (off and on) and the humidity was quite unpleasant. The service was a bit slow because they only had one server other than the owner helping out wearing 10 other hats per usual. Rude on the phone when calling for reservations. Also the hours CLeARLY state they are open until 1:30 but when we arrived well before that they had already closed. Not going to bother trying to go back.

Best sushi in Richmond without a doubt, and some of the best sushi I've had period. Would highly recommend the fatty tuna, it's not commonly offered at mosh western sushi restaurants, but it's very good.
