If you are in Alturas and want a good breakfast for a good price then the Wagon Wheel Cafe is your place. Fast service, bottomless coffee, good choices from $5 to $10. They even have cute coffee mugs that they will sell you for five dollars.

Thank goodness this place was open! On our trek from Eugene, OR to Reno there was not one restaurant open due to Covid. We landed in Alturas, CA & chose this restaurant because of the stars that it got and I can tell you... We're glad we did! Both the husband and I had the special which started off with a huge bowl of cream of chicken soup... then came the breaded fried chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and fries on the side! The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was very friendly, it was clean, the waitresses were very nice, and if you're on the road in this area, do stop in for an extremely reasonably priced lunch!
