I grew up on Long Island, not too far from NYC. I moved to the west coast in 1980 with no regrets except one: try though I might, I could not find a pizza that remotely measured up to the amazing pizza I recalled from childhood. Lots of places claim "New York style pizza", but trust me...they're not even close.Flash forward 35 years to a random visit to the Fresh Wood Fired Pizza West in NC. OMG! It's the real thing! A bubbly crust that should be in The Pizza Hall of Fame, a fresh melt of real mozzarella cheeses, just the right amount of olive oil, and just a bit of char. Perfection!
