We used to live in Torrance, California, where there are so many great authentic Japanese restaurants big and small. So we know what authentic Japanese food tastes like.Last night, for the first time, we took a chance and ate at Nagomi here in Albuquerque.Wow!!The food was absolutely great!I had no idea that Albuquerque, out of all places, has such a great, authentic Japanese eatery, owned and operated by a Japanese family. We had Chef's Bento Box which was superb. The one I ordered had grilled mackerel which was absolutely out of this world, succulent and tasty. This Bento Box also had great assorted tempura as well as tuna sashimi and California rolls. The Master Chef is from Japan who went through the vigorous apprentice training to become a true Japanese chef in Japan. We (Japanese) believe that the we use other human sensory such as sight, smell, touch, atmosphere, and other essential sensory to taste and enjoy our food. And this is my favorite restaurant to enjoy my so-called "soul food" menu and "Ofukuro no aji" meaning our mother's home cooked meal taste. Service is always excellent since their service concept is a typical Japanese standard. From where I reside, it takes me approximately 5 hours of straight driving to Albuquerque and even though only reason for me to visit Albuquerque is to eat at Nagomi restaurant, I don't mind since the reward I get ls well worth the long drive.
