Tony's in Houston

First few times we went there it was great. We always order the center cut filet mignon which is super juicy and tender. However, after our last visit, we won't be returning. We ordered two steaks with the truffle sauce on the side. When they brought it out, the sauce was all over the steaks. The waitress didn't apologize, but said she would take care of it. Less than ten minutes later, they brought the steaks back. Given how quickly it came back, it was evident that they washed the sauce off and re-grilled/torched the same steaks. She asked us to cut in the steaks to check if it was cooked to our liking (medium rare). In the center, the steak still looked hot pink so we said it was fine. However, after eating the steaks, we realized the entire outer 1/3 of the steak was past well-done due to the re-grilling. She threw in some free whipped potatoes to compensate, but this didn't feel like equal compensation for two ruined $60+ steaks. As a high-end restaurant that charges such high prices, the right thing to do would have been to bring out brand new steaks instead of re-purposing the old ones. Unacceptable and won't be going back after this incident.

Sometimes the word superb can become underrated, especially when you absolutely LOVE a place like Tony's. The service is superb. The food is superb. The atmosphere is superb on the next level above amazing. I've lost track on what level we are on, so let's just go with amazing. We were taken here by a client who knows I can be a little picky sometimes. I let my guard down and embraced this wonderful establishment with open arms. We were promptly greeted and immediately seated which is always a plus when your stomach is growling. I decided to be brave and try the zucchini soup to start with. Yum! Such a pleasant surprise. Before I began to download this new recipe on Pinterest to try at home, these wonderful slices of bread were served. I could've had this and the soup for my entire meal since it was so filling, but alas, I didn't drive this far to become a quitter. For the finale, I had the sliced prime tenderloin that practically melted in my mouth. I almost forgot to take a picture before diving in and took a moment to reflect that there were times we actually just ate our food. The desserts came passing by and as delectable as they looked, I reminded myself that I did not indeed wear stretchy pants to "make room" for those delicious treats. I am hoping next time that I can find a roomier outfit that fits the dress code and indulge on something sugary. Overall, it was a wonderful experience overall and I'm truly looking forward to dining with them again...but with stretchy pants!

Tony's is an exceptional experience! The service is the best in the city. Mrs. Vallone makes you feel like family and of course the food is always amazing.
